Abstract

The article discusses the prevention program created to evaluate building contamination as a result of beryllium health hazards. In 1940, a series of disease associated with chronic beryllium disease (CBD) occurred in the fluorescent light industry which was characterized by a granulomous lung disease that can be weakening and sometimes fatal that resulted to a focus on Beryllium Health Hazards. Since this type of work is associated with the Department of Energy (DOE), workers in this industry have been a major exposure group. In 1999, the DOE announced the Chronic Beryllium Disease Prevention Program which orders the permissible exposure limit as well as surface criteria.
