Abstract

The article discusses a study, published in the "British Journal of Surgery," which shows that patients with abdominal aortic aneurysms have a better chance of survival when they are operated on at a hospital that sees a high number of cases. The study supports the theory that surgical resources should be concentrated in large centers. The study asserts that there should be volume criteria for elective and emergency abdominal aortic aneurysm surgery in Great Britain. The article discusses a similar study in the U.S. that suggest that surgery should only be performed at medical facilities with a high volume of cases.
