Abstract

This article examines the theme of service in the works of William Shakespeare. The author recounts the history of the scholarship on this theme, which has been increasing. He mentions Frances E. Dolan and Michael Neill as two of the scholars working in this area. The concept of service can be expanded to encompass almost every relationship within his plays, and by extension, Elizabethan society.
