Abstract

This article discusses the cooperation rate in face-to-face household surveys and the influence of interviewers' contact behavior on the contact. Interviewers serve as the agents of data collection in surveys. Their primary tasks includes contacting the target persons, conducting the interviews according to the rules of standardized interviewing, and gaining their cooperation. Research indicates that demographic interviewer characteristics like gender and age play a minor role in gaining cooperation.
