Abstract

The article offers tips on protecting public access computers and their users from computer hackers. According to the author, the first line of defense is its operating system (OS) and the indispensable security software such as firewalls and software to fight malware. Librarians are advised to always enable the auto-update of patches and anti-malware definitions, probably a couple of times a week. They also have to look for third-party utilities that are specially designed to enhance the security of the workstation.
