Abstract: The article presents information on recent archaeological findings indicating that the Philistines were literate and cultured. Excavators examined 19 ceramic pieces found at the ruins of a Philistine seaport in Ashkelon, Israel, and determined that their painted inscriptions represent a form of writing.
