Abstract

This article discusses the clashes going on in cities around the United States, including Massapequa, New York, between homeowners of older and smaller homes in suburban neighborhoods and new owners who tear down the smaller homes to erect larger ones. Preservationists have been making some progress in saving the older homes and the neighborhoods. The slowdown in the building boom has given some cities and towns a chance to enact building moratoriums and zoning changes that have slowed down building.
