Abstract

The article reports on the use of a biomechanical model to explore how impairment of the pubovisceral portion of the levator ani muscle, the apical vaginal suspension complex, or both might interact to affect the anterior vaginal wall prolapse severity. A description of the biomechanical model is presented. An impairment of the muscular and apical supports of the anterior vagina wall could result in the development of a pelvic organ prolapse.
