Alternativas propuestas para mejorar las condiciones higiénico-sanitarias de una zona de Marianao.

Wastewater treatment using conventional technologies is not always a good solution to small population groups; most of the time, conventional technologies for small population groups lead to oversized solutions and it is necessary to look for non-conventional proper solutions: sanitary security and social and economically sound solutions. Regarding appropriate technology, systems are classified in: treatment in situ and system of modified sewer. In this paper, these two kinds of system are applied to obtain a wastewater treatment solution for a population of 500 inhabitants at Consejo Popular Pocitos Palmar. System of activated sludge extended aeration was found to be the most appropriated for the design conditions in this case. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
