The article describes a United States military project known as Africa Command, designed primarily to combat Islamic terrorism and prevent it from spreading across the African continent. The general structure of this group, its bases and some examples of operations it has carried out are described. Difficulties Africa Command has encountered involving multiple lines of authority and conflicting agendas are also noted.
