Abstract

The article presents a retrospective cohort study on the possible carcinogenic effect of snus, Swedish moist snuff. The study focused on cancers of the oral cavity, lung and pancreas. Information on tobacco smoking and snus use among 279,897 Swedish male construction workers from the years 1978-92 was analyzed. The research focused on those snus users who had never been smokers. The researchers found that snus was independently associated with pancreatic cancer but unrelated to incidence of oral or lung cancer.
