Abstract

Keloids or hypertrophic scars can appear secondarily to piercings, trauma, bums, surgical procedures, etc. as it has been described. One of the theories says that they are a result of an altered process, in which collagen synthesis by fibroblasts is excessive; but the etiology remains unknown. Many and varied treatment have been described but the recurrence of the disease is a rule. We present a case in which a patient had a right earlobe keloid. It was treated several times and in several manners, with recurrence of the disease. We treated it by means of surgical resection and 5% lmiquimod cream. The patient is disease ‘free’ 6 months after surgery. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
