Abstract: The article focuses on the Fifth World Congress of Herpetology held at the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa in 2005. It cites papers presented at the conference, including a review of the utility of reptiles to a model of the evolution of viviparity. Also stated is that the rapid development that has been made in understanding the evolution of viviparity was highlighted in the event. It adds that one main advantage of the symposium was in establishing potential future collaborations.
