Abstract
- The article presents updates regarding the recycling rate of paper, tires, steel and glass in Brazil. According to the Brazilian Paper and Pulp Association, Brazil has consumed 3.4 million tons of recyclable paper types in 2005 wherein the recycling rate was 46.9 percent on apparent paper consumption. The recycling in the south and southeastern regions varied from 44 to 64 percent, while the rate dropped to 16 percent in other regions. Metal drink cans accounted eight percent in the market share, and 46.8 percent of tires are able to be reused. In addition, the recycling rate for glass fell from 47 to 45 percent in 2003.
