Abstract

The article explores the importance of the relationships between natural and social scientists, users, and policy makers in accomplishing the objectives of the economic analysis under the European Union Water Framework Directive (WFD) that aims to develop a successful integrated basin management model. The economic, social and environmental benefits that may result from the relationships, which are important in the planning for river basins, are also determined. Moreover, the design and implementation of river basin plan are suggested to be based on the continuous cooperation among scientists, the participation of users, the exchange of opinions among stakeholders and the participation of information to policy makers.
