Abstract

The article discusses a study which investigated the prevention of overt diabetic nephropathy using an angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB) in normotensive and hypertensive Japanese patients with type 2 diabetes. The study found that telmisartan decreased the transition rate to overt nephropathy after adjustment for changes in systolic blood pressure (SBP). It also revealed that patients with type 2 diabetes and microalbuminuria receiving telmisartan achieved better renoprotection.
