"Are you Hungarian or Romanian?" On the Study of National and Ethnic Identity in Central and Eastern Europe.

The article presents a discussion of the study concerning the identities in the Central and Eastern European region, particularly the two main ways of theorizing collective identity, which are strong, hard or essentialist and weak soft, constructivist or anti-essentialist. It mentions the relation of hard conceptualizations in the academic writings on national identity in the said region. The research suggests the way identities were understood is not without political consequences.
