Abstract: The article describes the economic growth experienced by Chongqing, China after its creation as a municipality in 1997. According to Xu Jialu, vice chairman of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, the creation of the municipality represents the nation's development of its western regions. Signs of Chongqing's development included the rising of tall buildings, modern residential blocks and the building of a traffic network. Investments have risen in the municipality.
