Abstract

The article discusses a report released by the Southern Regional Educational Board, which stated that black residents in the South are as well represented on college campuses as they are in the region's population as a whole. The report indicated that in the 16 U.S. states measured the number of black students enrolled in college has risen by more than half over a decade. According to the article black-student enrollment throughout the U.S. has lagged behind the students' proportion of the population. The article reports that most of the increases in enrollment occurred at public universities and two-year colleges, and not at historically black institutions.
