Abstract

The article discusses several points to consider when deciding whether or not to return to competitive athletics after suffering exertional heat stroke (EHS). While some people who experienced EHS may recover quickly, they are still at risk for heat stroke. This is due to the fact that many of the underlying causes, such as insufficient heat acclimatization, high body fat, or improper rehydration, are still present and, therefore, pose a hazard to individuals. The effects of EHF also can decrease the body's ability to thermoregulate, also increasing the risk for recurrence.
