Abstract

The article reports on a declaration made by agricultural officials of New Jersey that gypsy moths have infested more than 320,000 acres in New Jersey in 2007. It is expected that about 17,000 acres of trees would die due to gypsy moth infestation. According to Charles M. Kuperus, state secretary of agriculture, the gypsy moth infestation is an environmental threat for the role of trees in filtering the air and providing a habitat for animals.
