Abstract: The article focuses on the phenotype of infants of mothers with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). The independent effect of maternal pregravid obesity on fetal adiposity in the infant of the GDM mother is discussed. It emphasizes that rational treatment modalities will be developed through better understanding of the various maternal components and factors relating to growth in the infants.
