Abstract

Chapter 4 of the book "Continuum Encyclopedia of Popular Music of the World," is presented. This section focuses on Mongolia. When commercial rock and popular music began to grip Western Europe in the mid-twentieth century, the Mongolian People's Revolutionary Party decreed that popular music was ideologically unsound because it contained elements of capitalism. However, the Party eventually allowed two state bands to be formed during the late 1960s, that is, Soyol Erdene and Bayan Mongol.
