Abstract
- This article discusses the role of the natural environment in the study of southern United States colonial history. The author states that the Native Americans, Africans, and Europeans all interacted with the environment in differing ways. The author argues that scholars must look at the South in a different way if a better understanding is to emerge. The author highlights interdisciplinary developments in scholarship in this field.
