Abstract

The article reports that several foreign countries are pushing the U.S. to agree to stricter regulation of investment markets and greater reporting by hedge funds after markets across the globe faced investment downturns based on U.S. subprime mortgage failures. The movement is led by economists in Germany and France. The U.S. has historically resisted any foreign oversight or restriction of its financial markets.
