Abstract

The author offers opinions on the U.S. economy and the wages it provides. For the past 30 years, average wages have stagnated except during real booms. The August, 2007 decline in employment raises the possibility the economy will experience a recession sometime in 2008. Economic growth since 2003 only produced significant wage gains in the last half of 2006, and those can be expected to end. Significant changes in government educational policy and health care policy will be needed.
