Abstract: The article examines the career of pop music entertainer Britney Spears after her disastrous live performance at the MTV Video Music Awards on September 9, 2007. Spears' disconnected effort and personal appearance there made her a subject of ridicule, including nasty comments by comedian Sarah Silverman on the awards broadcast itself. It seemed a continuation of the personal problems that have dogged Spears since becoming an adult.
