Abstract

The article examines the phenomenon of the national security mom or mother and the role she played in the 2004 U.S. presidential elections. U.S. President George W. Bush's better showing with women in 2004 were attributed to security moms. In 2000, Bush narrowed his deficit among female voters to five percentage points from 11, evidence that security moms doubted U.S. presidential candidate John Kerry's ability to fight terrorism.
