Abstract
- Most studies of Chinese reforms focus on the domestic sources of change, but in reality the reform process and outcome have been shaped by both domestic and external forces. In this paper I explore the external sources of governance reforms in China, particularly the influence of international norms on China's civil service reform and the development of the NGO sector in Chinese society. By highlighting the role of foreign ideas and models in the formation of new institutions in China, this paper seeks to enrich our understanding of contemporary Chinese political development and to contribute to the literature on international norm diffusion. ..PAT.-Unpublished Manuscript [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
