Abstract

The article examines the concept of single-sex education as well as its legal viability in primary and secondary education in the U.S. It attempts to establish the constitutional and statutory framework in the establishment of a single-sex education and cites major cases that affects its legal status. Moreover, it analyzes the implication of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 on the implementation of single-sex education and presents both sides of arguments in the expansion of single-sex classes and schools. Furthermore, the article provides a framework that attempts to provide greater understanding on the debate over the implementation of single-sex education in the country.
