Abstract

The article talks about the loss of ethanol from vitreous humor in deaths caused by drowning. As in the case of two different deaths, wherein the victims died by drowning with extended periods underwater, more or less 2 and 4 weeks, the ethanol concentrations found in their central blood were 260 and 280 based on the postmortem analysis. Moreover, this ethanol concentration was also reduced in the vitreous with 50 and 80, and 330 and 320 in urine (mg/100 mL). The serotin metabolite ratios support the explanation behind ethanol's diffusion from the vitreous fluid towards the surrounding water, instead of the ethanol's postmortem production in blood as the main cause of the differences on the blood-vitreous ethanol.
