Abstract

Hakim Bey in his article "Temporary Autonomous Zones" calls for temporary camps of nomads to organize and resist State power. With the effort of States to close off un-owned lands, closing all open spaces for resistance movements, Cyberspace offers one of the last remaining spaces of nomadic resistance to sedentary state power. Using Gilles Deluezes notion of the Nomad, Guy Debord and Jean Baudrillards notion of hyperreality and Hakim Beys call for Temporary Autonomous Zones I claim that that the struggle to control code in cyberspace is weakening the envelope of the State on both sides. On one side economic globalization and international intellectual property law weakens a States power to assign property and on the other the international hacker and pirating movements are weakening the power of the State to protect property rights. This weakening of the State can radically alter the current international order. ..PAT.-Conference Proceeding [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
