Abstract
- The article reports on the ruling of the U.S. District Judge Virginia Hopkins that the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) has violated air pollution rules over 3,000 times over a two year period because of its coal-fired power plant in northwest Alabama. It is stated that the Alabama Environmental Council and the Sierra Club are the ones which filed the suit against TVA. Meanwhile, the Alabama Department of Environmental Management has adopted a rule in 2003 after the suit has been filed that would allow a certain number of violations each quarter. On the other hand, the utility has been given 60 days to file for an appeal with the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta, Georgia.
