Abstract
- The article discusses the popliteus muscle, located in the knee, including its anatomy, symptoms of dysfunction, and a massage approach to treatment. It reports on disagreement regarding the details of its function and anatomy, but recognizes the popliteus as helping to maintain knee positioning while the body is in motion. Muscle spasm may cause pain in the back of the knee and may leave the sufferer unable to fully extend the leg. Massage of the muscle may provide immediate relief.
