Abstract

The article discusses a study which examined the prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels and PSA velocity (PSAV) in a group of men who were diagnosed with prostate cancer and who were enrolled in a prostate cancer screening trial. PSA levels and PSAV were examined as risk factors for an elevated biopsy Gleason score. The study also examined whether PSAV and/or PSA level in patients who underwent prostatectomy, when combined with clinical predictors had better predictive ability for advanced pathologic stage compared with clinical predictors alone.
