Abstract

The journalistic discourse is a highly complex communication product. An example of such complexity is the two opposed or contradictory tendencies observed in current journalistic language. On one side the aversion to the most frequent and simple ways of expression choosing instead long words and lexical euphemism, both present in particular in the political and administrative language. On the other side, the irruption of colloquial language, or what is usually understood as colloquial language (that is, characteristic of the oral and conversational language, careless and spontaneous). The journalist uses one or the other in order to achieve very specific goals, more or less legitimate, although they should never be claimed to justify an unproper use of language.
