Abstract

The article discusses the political events that took place in Poland in 2006. The victory of a single minority party led by identical brothers marked a first in modern democracy. Due to the perceived lack of experience and the immediate appointment of individuals of questionable characters and qualification, the new government faced competency issues. Parliament passed several defense and economic resolutions and legislation but it was overshadowed by the lustration law that requires the vetting of public officials with past links to communism. Polish politics also saw the formation of a majority coalition composed of parties with extreme ideologies, the cancellation of an annual summit over a disagreeable issue, and a sexual harassment scandal that fragmented a member coalition.
