This work suggests a synthesis to the apparent contradiction originated by the Socratic position towards traditional inherited religion and his philosophical need to examine everything; which is a contradiction which probably will only be solved through death itself. From the analysis of the Platonic dialogues Eutifron and Apology the specific Socratic attitude towards piety and religion are constructed. This paper offers philological considerations on piety and impiety but it fundamentally discusses the topic of the Socratic search of philosophical grounds in relation both with philosophy as well as with religion.
