Abstract

The objective of this research was to determine the capability of the vibrio mimicus to penetrate the turtle egg shell. The study was conducted at the Centro Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología de Alimentos in year 2000. This was done by inoculating the surface of the shell with the bacteria and incubating the samples for 72 hours at 25°C. After incubation, samples were analyzed using electronic microscopy. Results show that vibrio mimicus grows on the surface of the egg shell but cannot penetrate it after 72 hours of incubation at 25°C. Therefore, any treatment to reduce or eliminate the risk of vibrio mimicus and improve turtle egg sanitation should be applied externally. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
