Abstract

The article discusses the case of a 15-month-old toddler who had pancytopenia and elevated liver enzymes. The patient was brought to the emergency department with a history of diarrhea, vomiting, pancytopenia and bleeding, seven days prior to consultation. Upon arrival to the emergency department, complete blood count and blood chemistry analysis were performed. The patient developed epitaxis, bilateral rales, anuria, ascites, pleural effusion and generalized edema while in the pediatric intensive care unit. The laboratory results revealed liver, heart, and kidney failure and early signs of brain death. The physicians performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation maneuvers and the patient was pronounced dead on her third day in the hospital.
