Abstract

The article discusses U.S. laws that create social and economic problems, such as the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) that requires that a physician pay for an interpreter for deaf patients who need interpreters. Economists Daron Acemoglu and Joshua Angrist investigated the effects of the ADA and discovered that under the laws employment of the handicapped decreased. Similarly, the Endangered Species Act (ESA) of 1973 has proved hazardous for red-cockaded woodpeckers.
