Abstract

The article reports on the study as to how roots interacts with neighboring roots. It is inferred that the roots respond to neighboring roots in a very specific manner, which depends on the identity of the neighbor. The author emphasized that root extensions tend to be greater when the roots grow into substrate containing the nonself roots of a genetically different individual plant. He implied that the plant species, genotypes or physiological recognition processes appear to be involved in the root interactions.
