Abstract

This article describes a compact and simple coplanar waveguide mono pole antenna for ultra- wideband (UWB) applications. The overall size of the printed antenna is 26 x 35 x 1.6 mm, which is very compact, low profile and can be integrated in an ultra-wideband transceiver for further integration. The wideband performance is achieved by properly choosing the dimensions of the rectangle-semicircle-rectangle shape of the antenna. The design of the proposed antenna is suitable for ultra-wideband applications, which covers the 3.1 to 10.6 GHz band. The printed coplanar wave guide antenna is fed by a 50 Ω microstrip line, with a small rectangle for broadband operation. For a -10 dB return loss, the operating bandwidth of the antenna is 3.1 to 11 GHz. The antenna gain varies from 1.47 to 5.02 dBi. Both impedance and radiation characteristics of this antenna are studied. The proposed antenna has a very simple geometrical structure and proves to be a good candidate for ultra- wideband applications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
