Abstract

The article describes the professional career of Krzysztof Penderecki as a composer of orchestral music. He won prizes in the Polish Composers' Union Young Composers' Competition and became a composition teacher at the Krakow State Higher School of Music. It is asserted that he was the first to use experiment sounds such as sawing wood, rustling paper and hissing. His composition "Symphony no. 8, Lieder der Vergãnglichkeit" will be premiered in 2008 in Great Britain.
