Abstract
- The article reports on reactions to the appointment of Raisa Bogatyryova as head of Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) by Ukraine's President Viktor Yushchenko in December 2007. Analysts see Bogatyryova's appointment as an effort by Yushchenko to balance Yulia Timoshenko's power and to strengthen an alliance with the Donetsk financial group.
