Abstract

The author speculates whether the remaining U.S. candidates will take on the challenge of eradicating poverty now that fellow candidate John Edwards was beaten at the polls. Through his campaigns, Edwards has focused the public's attention to the plight of the poor. While candidates Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama have position papers that address poverty, they rarely invoked the word poverty in their campaign speeches. The poverty rate in the U.S. according to the Census Bureau is presented.
