Abstract
- The article discusses how birds can negatively impact fruit crops and suggests methods of controlling bird populations in orchards. It is reported that a flock of 500 starlings can consume up to a ton of food in a ten-day period and that birds are know to spread several diseases including the West Nile virus, Escherichia coli (E.coli), and histoplasmosis. Methods for controlling bird populations include visual scare devices, distress call generators, and placing nets around fruit trees.
