Abstract

The article reports that stock prices in China are competing and companies are delaying initial public offerings of stock. According to government officials, the timing is right to establish a market that will give opportunities for small companies to sell stock and raise money. Premier Wen Jiabao reportedly included starting a growth enterprise market (GEM) in his list of the government's economic aims for 2008. It is noted that stock markets dedicated to small companies have been prone to abuses.
