In this article the author discusses a number of economic matters in the news in March-April 2008. He examines the financial crises that afflicted the American economy in that period, particularly the collapse and subsequent bailout of the Bear Stearns investment bank. He suggests that American financial difficulties will expand to include Britain. He ascribes the economic problems in both countries to accumulation of too much debt.
