Abstract

The article discusses the efforts by South Korea to become a center for higher education. The article describes how the country is drawing top universities from Japan, China, and the U.S. to establish academic centers. The cities of Pyeongtaek, Seoul, and Incheon City have agreed to establish research centers and colleges with such schools as the State University of New York at Stony Brook, North Carolina State University, and the Netherlands Shipping and Transport College. The article details how the nation's own colleges are renovating their programs, such as improving foreign-language programs, updating technology at their scientific research centers, and starting liberal-arts programs. Also discussed is the effect of globalization, internationalism, and industrialization on education.
